Poverty Simulation
Living on the Edge Workshop:
Express Employment Professionals and Access of West Michigan will co-facilitate this workshop to help participants overcome misconceptions about poverty by providing insight into the barriers faced by low-income individuals. The goal of this workshop is to help employers better understand their entry-level workforce so they can improve employee retention and engagement.
The workshop includes an interactive simulation, discussion, and application to the real world and the workplace.
Participants will role-play the lives of various family types experiencing poverty. In addition to the interactive simulation, staff who have previously lived in poverty will share their real life experiences. After the simulation, Lorraine Medici, Director of Training and Development at Express, will focus on applying takeaways from the simulation to the workplace with the goal to understand the struggles to make ends meet.
Access has used this training curriculum to engage audiences for over 20 years with great success and 95% of participants say this workshop is a useful tool that accurately educates on those living with restricted income.
Who Should Attend:
This workshop is an eye-opening training tool for both businesses and non-profit organizations. Special emphasis will be placed on takeaways for front-line management, human resources, and senior leadership at companies who have entry-level workers.
