Group Hosts Veteran Employment Summit to Educate Local Employers on Veteran Hiring, Onboarding, and Retention
Association for Human Resource Management (AHRM) and Express Employment Professionals partner to host November 21 Veteran Employment Summit
Grand Rapids, Michigan, October 28, 2019—On November 21, experts from around the nation will gather at the first West Michigan Veteran Employment Summit to present on best practices in Hiring, Onboarding, and Retaining military veterans! Express Employment Professionals and the Association for Human Resource Management (AHRM) have partnered together to host this first of its kind event.
The training on November 21 will take place at the Prince Conference Center at Calvin University (1800 East Beltline Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546) from 7:45am to 12:30pm.
The morning will begin with an inspirational message from First Sergeant Matt Eversmann (Ret.), Hero of the epic film, Black Hawk Down and veteran employment consultant. Attendees will then have the chance to choose from six different breakout sessions offering best practices and tools to launch or improve their veteran hiring and retention initiatives.
Breakout sessions include:
- Interpreting Military Resumes and Conducting Interviews
- Understanding Military Culture
- Understanding and Navigating Reserve / National Guard Commitments and USERRA
- The Veteran Friendly Employer Program
- How to Create and Implement a Veteran Hiring Program
- Best Practices for Veteran Onboarding and Retention
Heather Merrick, HR Consultant at Express Employment Professionals and member of the AHRM Board of Directors, said “Michigan has one of the largest veteran populations in the country…so if employers aren’t tapping into this valuable workforce they are missing out. We are excited to host this summit and help both veterans and employers be more successful through sharing these best practices with local companies.”
